At the time of writing this review, the book was free on iBooks.I think it would be more appropriate to title this 'Places you haven't yet considered travelling to, but should' - though something shorter, of course! While these places are probably worth the trip, labelling it as Best Travel could be a little misleading - there's reasons why places like London and Venice are so popular to travel to. It seems in a way they're saying a few of these places just to be different, as there's been SO many top lists of where to travel, it's all been said before. I'm not in any way saying these places should not be visited... just that the name of the book could be changed to something more appropriate. 'Destinations you shouldn't miss!' maybe. (No, I'm terrible at names.)Japan is a must see - I've been three times and I can't express enough how much I love the place.I now want to go back to Scotland so I can make a trip to the Shetland Islands, if only to see that fully-furnished bus stop! However the Great Barrier Reef really isn't all it's said to be. I know I'm in minority of saying it, as it's world-re-now... but honestly, there's better reefs around Fiji and they're also a lot easier (and nicer) to get to.Surprised to see Newcastle, Australia on the list - and the text assures us they thought we would pause at this, and assures us it's worth the trip. From a quick read though, it's only suggestion you go there if you're into surfing. Beautiful photos as Lonely Planet can always boast, and a quick read. It has very handy lists ranging from the places with the best bookstores to those who want a thrifty vacation, and now I want to go to every single 'learn to cook local' suggestion! I'll be going to the London bookstore suggestion (Daunt Books) in August. 83 Marylebone High St.
