Thief of Camorr

Katharine likes to think she’s a Sky Pirate and that takes up most of her time. When she isn’t treasure hunting, she’s writing or playing video games and wishing Doctor Who and Farscape were real.

Bitterblue (Graceling)

Bitterblue - Kristin Cashore, Ian Schoenherr I enjoyed this book, but it didn't feel as deep/weighted as it could have. It was like only a section of the story had been told. I guess I'm too used to fantasy books that have different parts centred around different people... and while I in no way think that's NEEDED in general, I think this novel could have been fantastic if that element had been added. I agree with other comments that the ten year old girl didn't sound like one AT ALL, but that may be believable if excuses had been made regarding her upbringing. They weren't though, so we're left with a ten year old girl who sounds 16, or so.Praise has to be given to the fact Katsa could so very nearly come across as a Mary-Sue, but she doesn't. Everyone in this novel is a little too whiny, but I guess anyone would be if in their position.I would have liked a bit more of an explanation of the eyes, since they seemed to be in there purely for 'pretty-factor'. Maybe the colour should have been a hint to their Grace - but then again, no, for that would mean she would have had red eyes, which is way too overdone. However, simply giving them all pretty eyes doesn't really make sense - it's not very believable... not the way they all have different coloured mis-matched eyes, anyhow. It was simply so he could say OH, YOUR EYES ARE SO BEAUTIFUL, and she be NO, YOUR EYES ARE SO BEAUTIFUL. It lacked proper reason.I agree with another review that I can't word any better, said by Genevieve: 'The world felt unimaginative and barely sketched-out (to the point that the names of five out of seven kingdoms are thinly disguised versions of North, South, East, West, and Middle)'All that said, I enjoyed it. I read it in under 24 hours and I didn't want to put it down. However, I wouldn't read a sequel and I would hesitate before buying any more of her books.
